ドクター・ワトソンが原作やドラマ、映画で常識人として描かれているように、15歳のワトソンは当たり前の思春期の少年です。むしろ、ホームズが風変わりであることにより、ワトソンが普通の少年であることが高められています。「バスカービル君と犬の冒険」では、ワトソンはメアリーを「モンスター・バナナ」から守り、ステイプルトンを底なし沼から助け出します。このステイプルトンがモンスター・バナナに変装していたにも関わらず、です。ワトソンの当り前さは、ホームズと他の生徒や先生たちとの潤滑油になっており、ゆえにこのシリーズでは一種のキーパーソンとも呼ぶことができます。ワトソンは、同い年なのにホームズは自分より優れていると言いますが、ホームズにない物がワトソンにあるのも事実です。


As Dr. Watson in the canon, dramas and films is described as a man with common sense, fifteen-year-old Watson is an ordinary boy in puberty. Rather, his ordinariness is enhanced by the eccentricity of Holmes. In "The Adventure of Henry Baskerville and a Dog", he protects Mary from "Monster Banana" and saves Stapleton from a bottomless swamp despite it's him who disguised himself as Monster Banana. His condition of being normal makes his roommate and other pupils and teachers communicate smoothly so he can be called a kind of key person in the series. Watson says that Holmes is superior to himself though they are of the same age, but it's true he has something that Holmes doesn't have.
