「流石のホームズもべインズにはかなわない」
(Even Holmes never can overcome Baynes)
べインズ/Baynes
Baynes is a pupil of Cooper House and nephew of Headmaster Ormstein and always has a lollipop. He is modelled on an inspector in "The Adventure of the Wisteria Lodge" and his first appearance is "The Adventure of a Serious Witness" based on the story. In it, he challenges Holmes in reasoning. He regards Holmes as his rival and his favourite phrase is "I respect you, Sherlock Holmes." It's him who brings Holmes to decipher the stick figures in the school in "The Adventure of Henry Baskerville and a Dog". In passing, Holmes' image of reasoning is expressed by CG but his image is expressed by picture-story show. Does it mean that Baynes is slightly inferior to Holmes? However he writes such words as below using the stick figures.
