ベイカー寮221B／Baker House 221B

井上氏の作品をまたご紹介します。こちらは「空飛ぶシャーロック」です。傘を持って飛ぶ姿は、パラソルを手にして飛ぶメアリー・ポピンズを連想させます。ライヘンバッハでモリアーティ教頭と出くわしたホームズが、そのままひらりと、あたかも弁慶と対決する牛若丸のように身をかわしたと考えるのも実にファンタジーぽくはあります。

I introduce some pictures by Bunta Inoue again. This "Flying sherlock", who flies in the sky with his umbrella that reminds me of Mary Poppins flies with her parasol. It is really fantastic to imagine that Holmes happens to meet Deputy Head Moriarty but dodges his attack and flies over the Reichenbach falls as if Ushiwakamaru did to Benkei (*).

(*)Ushiwakamaru, young Minamoto no Yoshitsune is said to have met a monk soldier called Benkei on Gojo Ohashi, one of the biggest bridges in Kyoto. Benkei tried to take a sworrd from him by force but was dodged and escaped by Ushiwakamaru and later became to serve him.



そして渋い雰囲気のモリアーティ教頭です。コナン・ドイル同様にホームズの普及に貢献した、高名な画家シドニー・パジェットの作風を模して描かれています。このシリーズのモリアーティは、実は結構好きです。

The other is Deputy Head Moriarty with the quiet atomosphere decribed in a style of Sidney Paget, a legendary artist who contributed to the spread of Sherlock Holmes as well as Sir Arthur Conan doyle. I quite like Moriarty in this series in fact.
