The opening ceremony expresses Japanese tradition using projection mapping. Then ICHIKAWA Udanji and his son ICHIKAWA Ukon performed "Rnejishi", a programme of kabuki. The mascot of the World Cup "Ren-G" is based on it. And Richie McCow brought the Webb Ellis Cup.
After the opening ceremony, Japan played against Russia. Though Japan made some mistakes at the beginning of the match, they regained their form and defeated Russia at last. Peter Labuschagne scored one try and Kōtarō Matsushima scored a hat-trick.

Personally, I hoped that Fiji scored more against Australia (Wallabies) in Sapporo. And the matches of New Zealand v. South Africa and Ireland v. Scotland were really exciting. Ireland who won the match 27-3 will meet Japan next Saturday.
Prince and Princess Akishino were pleasent at the ceremony and watched the match. In the image below, the prince performs the wave with PM Shinzō Abe and Sir Bill Beaumont, president of World Rugby.
