The dispute of Seikanron caused the resignations of SAIGŌ Takamori, ETŌ Shinpei, ITAGAKI Taisuke and GOTŌ Shōjirō. Some of them started riots against the government later and the others launched the freedom and people's rights movement. Though Takamori emphasised that he would negotiate with Korean government to recover the diplomat relations again, ŌKUBO Toshimichi told them that it's not the time and the industrialisation of Japan should be realised first. And then he became naimu-kyo and grabbed power. It's one of the reasons why Toshimichi was assassinated later.
Takamori's idea of visiting Korea is rejected
In this series, Takamori visits Toshimichi to say farewell to him. He plans to go his way and so is Toshimichi. According to the official website, no details in this scene are described in the original script intentionally to let the actors, Ryōhei Suzuki and Eita create their play by themselves. And their last conversation really moves me. By the unreserved conversation, they go back to the good old days temporarily.

Incidentally, both Korea and China at this time were being invaded by the Western powers. As for Korea in the late 19th century, Isabella Bird wrote "Korea and Her Neighbours" in 1898.
