At the beginning of "The Adventure of the One Hundred Tadpoles", the fourteenth episode of the first series, Holmes blows a party horn calmly while Watson does prep. Then Watson asks his roommate if he finishes it, he tells Watson that he has no intention of doing it from the beginning. Besides he says, "Assuming the pain of doing prep is ten, the pain of being warned is six. I prefer the lighter."It may be true that he is one of the pupils who is hard to deal with in Beeton school.
However, he makes Watson stop doing prep and cleans up their dorm with him in haste when he hears the voice of Irene Adler outside a door. Holmes, who usually acts like a reasonable adult is pretentious like a child only in the presence of her. Later his brother Mycroft tells him that it's natural for him to be in high spirits when he is with Miss Adler who attracts him.
