IDEURA Masasuke was a ruler of a northern part of Shinano (current Nagano）and served SANADA Masayuki. He led suppa (ninja) s in Koshu, current Yamanashi and was at Masayuki's beck and call. He participated in the Siege of Odawara in 1590. Later he served SANADA Nobuyuki and died at 78 in 1623. His son became one of the ministers of the Sanada clan who ruled Matsushiro.
In this drama, he is described as a sworn friend of Masayuki and is fully trusted by him. Besides he teaches Sasuke ninjutsu, the art of ninja. But he fails assassinating TOKUGAWA Ieyasu after the death of TOYOTOMI Hideyoshi and to make the matter worse, he burns himself badly. Then he recuperates himself in Ueda Castle and then the residence of the Sanadas in Edo. He tries to stop Nobuyuki from visiting his brother Nobushige (Yukimura) during the Siege of Osaka despite the aftereffect of the burn.
