Jukeini was from Nakanomikado Family, one of aristocrats in Kyoto. She married IMAGAWA Ujichika, daimyo of Suruga and Totomi and gave birth to Yoshimoto. After his death, she assisted her grandson Ujizane with working out a plot and was regarded as sengoku daimyo though having been a woman.
Not only Ujizane, she assisted her son Ujiteru who became the head of the Imagawas when he was fourteen years old (*). On the other hand, she is said to have arranged the marriage of TAKEDA Harunobu (Shingen) and concerned herself in Hanakura no ran, s succession dispute in the Imagawas. She died in 1568 when she was in her seventies or eighties. "Jukeini" (**)is her honorific title after the death of her husband and her real name is unknown.
In this drama, she is described as a noblewoman with authority. She meets Jiro Hoshi (O-Towa) in her childhood and sees her again about 15 years later. After the death of Yoshimoto, she encourages her grandson Ujizane and plans to destroy the Ii clan.
(*) Yoshimoto became the head of the Imagawas after the death of Ujiteru. (**) "Ni" means "nun" in this case. At that time, wife of samurai usually became a nun after her husband's death.
