"The Adventure of the Residence of Mr. Douglas" is based on "The Valley of Fear". In it, Holmes breaks the school regulations and goes out to see a real murder with Watson and discovers another world there. In other words, he realises his limitations though he is recognised as master detective in the school.
In the residence, he is nothing but an impertinent boy and could finally talk about his reasoning to Inspector MacDonald with the help of Deputy Headmaster Moriarty. This experience and Jefferson Hope who already starts his adult's life inspire Holmes undoubtedly. Anyway he is so calm in front of the dead body and it reminds me of Dr, Jonouchi in "Galileo".
The make of the puppets of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas, Inspector Macdonald and policemen is different from those of Holmes, Watson and other pupils and school staff. And the interior of each room is designed to give mental pressure to viewers.
Watson suspects Mrs. Douglas as criminal first for she enjoys tea despite the murder of her husband and says to Holmes, "She seems to feel relieved for having been separated from her husband". I think he becomes to have a viewpoint of adult.
The below are the puppet of Inspector MacDonald (left) and living room in the residence. Both images are from Memorial Book.
