Gennojō and O-Tsuna drift to a shore. At that moment Chie has a dream in which they jump into the whirling waves and tells Mankichi about it. Mankichi says they don't die so easily to comfort her. At Tokushima Castle, TENDŌ Ikkaku, Ojūya (SEKIYA) Magobei and TABIKAWA Shūma meet HACHISUKA Shigeyoshi, lord of Tokushima domain mediated by Takeya Sanminokyō FUJIWARA no Arimura. MORI Yūnosuke loses his stipend because of failing in arresting Gennojō. Magobei still wears the hood in the presence of Shigeyoshi under the pretext of the scar on his forehead. Arimura tells Shigeyoshi that they can oppose the shogunate and Shigeyoshi intends to reward them but Magobei says there is a possibility of the survival of Gennojō because he was not wounded.
FUJIWARA no Arimura (Eisuke shinoi, fourth from the right) talks with Hachisuke Shigeyoshi, lord of Tokushima domain (Kazuyuki Aijima, second from the left)
Then TAKAGI Ryūjiken, superior vassal of Shigeyoshi appears and tells them that there is no news that the dead bodies of a couple cast ashore. Besides they jumped into the sea near Awa, so Gennojō was confident of swimming to the coast. He says it seems to be premature for them to be glad of his death. However Shūma makes his followers pass sheets of their description out to people and Arimura also hands them to magistrates. According to the officials, Kansuke, a chief shipwright of a post town called Hiwasa went missing with a soaked couple and Shūma informs Arimura about it.
Gennojō (Kōji Yamamoto, right) and O-Tsuna (Sumika Nono) disguised themselves as pilgrims go to Mt. Tsurugi guided by Kansuke (Ichirō Ogura), a shipwright
Kansuke is a shipwright who repairs the boats of Shikokuya only and he seems to go to Mt. Tsurugi with Gennojō and O-Tsuna to make them meet Yoami. Arimura and his followers begin hunting the mountain. At the same time, a couple of o-henro (pilgrim) pass Hiwasa. They are Gennojō and O-Tsuna who go to the foot of Mt. Tsurugi guided by kansuke but O-Tsuna hurts her right foot. After that Kansuke parts from them. He plans to go to Tosadomari to meet his smuggler's ring and then spend time in an island until the storm blows over and go to Osaka to work as shipwright again. Gennojō passes the night with O-Tsuna in an abandoned shrine.
Gennojō tells O-Tsuna that he enjoys the journey
O-Tsuna feels sad because the end of their journey is near. But Gennojō says that he has to protect her until she meets Yoami and Chie admits the relationship of being her half-sister. He also says he should be a brute that many people who are concerned with him were dead, wounded and marked by the authorities. So if he cannot protect her, he will be a real brute. However O-Tsuna objects against his words and says all of them devoted themselves to him and those who died cannot rest in peace if he is a real brute. She also decides to fight against their enemy so he swears that he won't say "brute" any more. He tells her that he enjoy the journey and she sits close to him.
Yoami (NAKAMURA Kazuo) who breaks prison discovers "Naruto Hichō" he hid ten years ago
Suddenly Kōga ninjas make a surprise attack on them. Gennojō makes O-Tsuna escape and fights against them. At the same time, Yoami breaks prison and discovers the place where he hid "Naruto Hichō". Arimura, Shūma and Magonei seek the recesses of the mountain based on the information that Yoami is witnessed. They find him and Arimura shoots him in the shoulder. He says it's interesting to lure Gennojō towards them by showing him Yoami but he will not be harrowed with the sin if he dies soon. Magobei spits out that what an aristocrat does is so mean (*). They accompany Arimura partway and they are divided into groups to chase Gennojō from all directions.
Tendō Ikkaku (Dai Watanabe, left) crosses swords with Gennojō but is killed
Gennojō approaches some of the ronins who accompany Ikkaku quietly and kills them. But Ikkaku discovers him and cross swords with him in a rocky area. Ikkaku is killed at last but he makes Shūma and Magobei promise to kill Gennojō before his death. In Osaka, Chie learns everything includes that O-Tsuna is her half-sister from Mankichi and asks O-Kura that she is eager to go to Awa. TSUNEKI Kōzan who sits with them tells her to take a wait-and-see attitude because it's not clear whether Gennojō is dead or alive. But Chie says that it's hard for her to wait for their return in Osaka though they must have an arduous journey in Awa.
Chie (Akari Hayami, left) asks O-Kura (Hisako manda, right) and Tsuneki Kōzan (Jun-ichi Haruta) to go to Awa
O-kura finally agrees with Chie because it is "in for a penny, in for a pound" and makes them ride on their boat. At Mt. Tsurugi, Arimura is frightened at the death of Ikkaku and the flapping of wings. Yoami who is injured hides himself in a cave but Shūma appears and encourages him to go out of there as staying here is dangerous and Chie is with him (**). Then Yoami asks him about Gennojō but he persists in denying all knowledge of him. At that moment, O-Tsuna shoots him in the leg with her pistol but he throws a knife to Yoami when he leaves and he is mortally wounded.
Yoami sees Tabikawa Shūma entering the cave
Yoami learns she is his another daughter O-Tsuna and asks her to call him father. Then he tells her to hand Gennojō "Naruto Hichō" and dies. But there comes Magobei and makes her faint and then takes "Naruto Hichō" from Yoami. Magobei carries O-Tsuna over his shoulder and calls Gennojō who must be in the mountain loudly. When he appears, he tells him that Yoami is dead and he will look after O-Tsuna. He tells Arimura the death of Yoami also. Arimura and his followers enter the cave to take "Naruto Hichō" (***) and Gennojō is arrested and imprisoned in a jail in Tokushima Castle. On one hand, Chie and Mankichi are on the way to Awa.
Magobei (Yoshihiko Hakamada) who carries O-Tsuna over his shoulder tells Gennojō that Yoami is dead
(*) In Sengoku period, this kind pf method was not common but the series is set in the mid 18th century, almost 200 years after the period.
(**) Needless to say, Shūma isn't with Chie and he attempts to sell Yoami to Arimura.
(***) It has been taken by Magobei already.
